Russia Was Met With Unexpected Resistance

The Ukrainian response is a strong symbol for democracy and freedom that was a big surprise.

Even before Russia attacked, they were trying to scare Ukraine down. Their strategy was to inflict a sort of panic upon them, making it easier to take over and set up a puppet government loyal to Russia. 

Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky was urging Ukrainians to stay calm. This paid off for Ukraine as they have been able to rally and arm a growing number of people. The Ukrainians have put up a resistance, which not only caught Russia by surprise, but also a lot of the world. A smaller democratic country standing up to a communist superpower sends a strong message to everyone. 

This hurts Putin’s ego because he looks weak. What Putin needs to catch up on is that the world is not what it was during the time the Soviet Union existed. Ukraine wasn’t excited to go back to life under communism. Other countries around the world share this sentiment. Democracies have formed and Russia is stuck in the past.
