Many people conclude that anime has gained popularity through the art styles, and though this is true, the reason for liking anime varies depending on the person. Anime lovers enjoy the art style, but the actual story matters as well, because anime is also used as an escape from reality.
According to techjury, Crunchyroll, a very big American anime subscription had 120 million registered users in 2021, and considering that some may be for a group of people, that is a huge amount of people. And according to the same source the Pokémon franchise, a very popular one, has made about $110 billion. That’s a lot of money for a franchise that’s about 26 years old. Naruto, another very popular anime, has reached approximately 1.97 million monthly searches in only the US, for only 1 anime.
Many people have explained that they watch anime from escape reality over many platforms, such as Tiktok. That’s something most anime lovers agree on. The plot and relationships play the biggest role in this. The plot is what gives us things to relate to, and the extravagance adds to the feelings we get from it. Relationships usually play a role because it’s wholesome. It also gives us someone to root for because we usually want characters with wholesome relationships to make it to the end.
“Demon Slayer” by Koyoharu Gotouge is a perfect example of this. “I liked it because it was very engaging,” said Alix B. “The story was interesting, and the art was so cool and impressive.” I totally agree. The story is very well written because though it has many blood baths, it is also a wholesome story that’s so beautiful it makes you cry. The relationships between the characters were perfect, Nezuko and Tanjiro Kamado’s relationship was so cute and pure, while Nezuko Kamado and Zenitsu Agatsuma’s relationship was hilarious, yet still so wholesome.
What anime should you watch?
“I like rom com animes” says Ava, “‘Your Name’ is one of my favorite animes.” And it is a very beautiful anime that is definitely recommended for any who love Ghibli movies and rom coms. There are many animes that people who like rom coms can watch such as “Komi Can’t Communicate” which has blown up very fast with a gorgeous main character Komi!
If you like sad shows,“A Silent Voice” is definitely recommended. The story is about a bully who turned into an outcast who befriends his victim, a deaf girl. It is a very beautiful story that will make you cry! “You Lie in April” is another good sad anime pick and it is very heartwarming and fun to watch as well (recommended to all the rom com lovers too)!
If you are more interested in comedy, there are many great picks. A very popular pick is “Spy x Family”, it is a very funny show that also has a lot of action considering that the main character is a spy. Other good shows include “Assassination Classroom”, which isn’t as disturbing as it sounds because of the cartoony vibe. Lastly, a very good comedy anime that is definitely recommended is “Haikyuu!!” It’s a very popular anime about volleyball, and the anime I recommend to everyone no matter what genre you prefer.
Overall, anime is a great genre of entertainment, and is loved throughout the world, so I would definitely recommend it to anyone and everyone because anime is both enjoyable to watch and interesting!
