Bullying and Mental health

How bullying can do worse things than it seems.

Have you ever suffered from the dark side of your social life? If so, this article will probably relate to you in many ways, and show you that you are not alone. If you haven’t, you should still continue on if you want to understand how it feels like, or how to help.

How does it feel?

Have you ever been called a name or been insulted? If so, how did you feel? Did it hurt? Did you remember it? If this has never happened to you, ask yourself: how do you think it would feel? Obviously, the answer would vary for different people, and the insult or name would also affect the answer to those questions. And there are things that can hurt more than an insult, things that can affect people so much more, things that can hurt their mental health.

This can cause anxiety because the fear of being bullied, made fun of, and talked about can cause major fears, which can affect whoever has these fears. This shows how fragile our mental health is, which is why people taking out their insecurities on others can cause so much pain and fear to the people around them. And just because someone has a good excuse for how they are affecting others, that does not mean that they are not the ones responsible for hurting the others’ mental health.

What hurts more is different for everyone. For example, Adriana Parker says, “Backstabbing hurts me the most because you put all your trust into this one person and then they’re suddenly a traitor. You know you can never trust them again.” I, personally, agree. Some people may not even be bothered by these horrible things, but that doesn’t mean they should ignore everything, especially when what is done is extreme. Most people say that people do this because they want attention, are jealous, or something else is going on in their life, but that still doesn’t justify their actions.

What can you do?

If you are experiencing bullying, you could talk to someone you trust, and report what people have been doing to you. And if you are someone who is recovering from an experience like this, you can either talk to someone, or you can get more help depending on how your experience affected you. A trustworthy place you could turn to is StopBullying.gov.  If you know someone who is experiencing this, you can help by standing up for the person when you see them being bullied, and letting them know you’re here for them.

Bullying can cause significant problems, especially towards mental health, which is why there are many ways to help with these situations. Although some people may just ignore what people do to them, they should try to do something about it because it’s a problem, and it could become worse.
