The 12 Months of 2020

Heres a little bit about the disastrous months of 2020.

Oh, what a horrible, terrible, no good, very bad year 2020 was. Each month, we were expecting the world to suddenly explode or an apocalypse to happen. It was just that bad. But so many things have happened that I bet a lot of people have forgotten about some of them. So I will explain some big things that happened in each month of 2020. Let’s start with January…

The year was going alright so far until… the wildfires. In places like California and Australia, fires spread throughout for most of the month. There were 1,136 fires and 16,791 acres of land was burned, which is 14.8 acres burned per fire. If you think that’s bad, well that wasn’t all that happened. On January 3, Iran’s most powerful military commander, Gen Qasem Soleimani, was killed in an airstrike on Baghdad airport ordered by former president Donald Trump. Thats pretty bad, but there’s more. On January 26, basketball player Kobe Bryant was killed in a helicopter crash. That’s already horrible but to top it off, the first case of COVID-19 in the U.S. was confirmed January 20. Now let’s go to February.

Wildfire

Next we have February. The effects of climate change hit like a truck in February. Storm Ciara in Europe was really horrible as it caused flooding and a lot of property damage. A bunch of locusts, which are like flying grasshoppers, practically invaded East Africa and had a devastating effect on crops there. Then the first person in the U.S. died from COVID-19, and the wildfires went on. Thanks a lot, February. I hope March is better…

A locust

Well, it wasn’t.. In March, the spreading coronavirus was officially declared a pandemic, more wildfires burned through Australia and California, and COVID-19 got way way way worse in Italy. But the movies Cats, Dolittle and Sonic the Hedgehog were coming out in theaters and people were risking everything to watch those movies. And then the toilet paper! Stores almost everywhere were out of toilet paper…I don’t think people realized that diarrhea isn’t one of the side effects of COVID-19. Man, I had such high hopes for March too. I don’t expect anything good to come in April.

Coronavirus

Not many new things happened in April so I’ll combine it with May. There were still a bunch of COVID-19 updates in both months as well as a few other things that are sort of political so I’ll avoid talking about them. Then, in May, there was the death of George Floyd. Although this may be somewhat political I think it should be included. This is very important for June.

Art of George Floyd

In June, practically everyone knew about the death of George Floyd and this is when the Black Lives Matter protests were everywhere. This is when police brutality spiked. Even though most of these protests were peaceful, people still got pepper sprayed, and hurt.

A black lives matter protest

In July, there were coronavirus updates, as well as in August but there were also landslides in India in August. September also had a lot of coronavirus updates and for all the following months. The last few months of 2020 aren’t as bad as the first few, but they are still pretty terrible.

Landslide

In October… something terrible happened…. trick-or-treating was cancelled because of COVID-19 so no one really went out to get candy. Then the last two months of 2020 weren’t terrible. November and December had a lot of covid updates, but that’s about it. Now, after reading this article you might think 2020 was a terrible year so I decided to interview someone to see what they thought.

What’s your name? How old are you?

Laniyah, 11

What do you think about 2020 and why?

I think 2020 was really bad, I say that because COVID came and a lot of people died. Many inspiring people as well like Kobe Bryant, Kirk Douglas, Kenny Rogers and so many more. I also saw that 2020 was bad because a lot of people just thought school was going to close for a little while and they were excited, but no one expected it to turn out like this.

What do you think about other people’s thoughts on 2020? Why?

Well, it depends on who the person is, of course, but I think a lot of people would also say it sucks because of all the stuff that happened in 2020. Like many people’s family members died because of what happened in 2020 and I would have to agree with them. (Sorry if you have lost a family member or close friends.)

What do you think is the worst month of 2020?

I’d say late march because that’s when schools shut down for COVID.

Do you think 2021 will be better or worse?

I think 2021 would be better because so far not that much has really happened besides the attack on the Capitol so as far as I know 2021 has been going wayyyyy better than 2020.

If anyone wants to ask you about these questions where can they contact you?

My tiktok hostclubirl.

It seems Laniyah as well as a lot of other people thought 2020 “sucked” and I would have to agree. The bad things outweighed the good. I hope you learned a little more about the bad things of 2020 and you can better understand the opinion of those who say 2020 was bad. I just really hope 2021 is better.
